“Doing Yoga, Being Yoga, Living Yoga”
- Caroline Wright
How Are Caroline’s Yoga Classes Different From Other Teachers?
Caroline offers personal guidance, everything she says is an offering, not an instruction, simply the gift of free choice to explore your body and mind in your own way. The classes are a safe space for reflection and sharing. There is no striving in Caroline’s classes, instead she encourages allowing, authenticity and acceptance of where we are in the moment.
Caroline specialises in guiding beginners and those who are beginning a practice after a time of physical, mental or emotional illness along with seasoned Yogis who are looking to explore the deeper teachings of Yoga.
Caroline considers Yoga not to be just about movement, she explores the lesser travelled roads of internal and external social ethics, breathwork, mediation and connection to Source Energy.
Caroline has taught classes sizes of up to 24 people, however she prefers to work with smaller groups to give more personal attention. Class numbers at Casa de Alegria are a maximum of 4 people so you are not just someone in a crowd of people, you get real connection time with Caroline.
Caroline encourages the use of props (cushions, bolsters, blocks, blankets) to support your practice. A pose is never about a shape that should be strived for, it’s simply about comfort and what we learn on the way into and out of a pose. At the end of each class, Caroline offers a Mini Head Massage during savasana for extra relaxation.
To create a safe space during class, Caroline uses a technique called “Permission Stones”. If you would like physical touch and guidance and/or a mini head massage during the class, you take a stone and place it at the top of your mat. Clients are encouraged to add or remove the stone during the class as they wish. This is a way to help people with trauma or insecurities to feel more comfortable saying ‘no’ anonymously to physical touch during a Yoga class.
If you want to take your practice to an even deeper level with Caroline, private lessons are available at Casa de Alegria, on-line, or we can bring the Casa de Alegria magic to you.
The Benefits of Yoga
Yoga allows us to reengage with our connection to Source Energy. Practicing Yoga brings increased flexibility, strength, stamina, balance, relaxation, enhanced breathing, mental awareness, and cognitive ability. It brings relief from back pain, arthritis, immune & hormonal imbalances, depression, anxiety, reduces inflammation, promotes weight loss, helps with insomnia and lowers blood pressure.
Yoga helps us to deal positively with life, becoming aware of where we place our attention and what we have been ignoring in our body and mind. Anyone of any age, and physical or mental ability can begin a Yoga practice by learning movement, breathwork, mediation and visulisation to encourage peace and wellbeing.
Let’s Talk Yoga And How I Do It Differently
“When I started doing Yoga, in a London Gym in 2004, I was only aware of, and interested in, physical exercise. I felt completely out of place in an all-levels class, but I knew there was something different about it. Yoga felt like a home coming to my body and mind, and I recognised I needed more.
From that moment on, I went to regular classes finding out quickly that I wasn’t as flexible as other people in the room. I strived for the perfect pose, creating feelings of insecurity, failure, and fear that my practice wasn’t good enough. I forced myself into uncomfortable positions, with no compassion for my body.
I carried these negative feelings for 16 years until I began my Yoga Teacher Training (YTT). For me, this training was brutal and horrific. It was a challenge to leave the striving of the perfect poses, the ‘ego’ pose, behind. That is a compliment to the training that I choose, I learned to accept my body, accept myself where I am, and lose the shame of using props to support my practice and think of them instead as aids to guide me.
After my YTT, I gained the knowledge that the purpose of Yoga is to notice where we hold tension, release the tension and find acceptance ourselves, which allows freer movement to feel into the boundaries of the body and mind. I continued my practice with self-study and discovered the lesser known and taught elements of Yoga, the “Eastern Yoga” of acceptance, social ethics and mind body connection to Source Energy.
I am not able to complete a “perfect pose”, my heels do not touch the ground in down dog and my hands do not reach the floor in forward fold. I am ok with that.
One of my clients said “You are authentic because you can’t do some of the Yoga poses and that is why I identify with you”.
In the Western Yoga world, this can be seen as a negative or a downfall as a teacher, I, however, consider this to be a compliment. You see, Yoga is not about just poses, or doing Yoga, Yoga is a way of life. From Doing Yoga and Being Yoga to Living Yoga.
For me, Yoga is a lifestyle, a sacred work to pass on and share. Allow me to guide you to this place of acceptance”.
“Yoga is a lifestyle not a pose”

Styles of Yoga
Caroline teaches many different styles of Yoga, from subtle physical movement using a chair to dynamic movement on a mat to workshops and mentoring. You don’t need a mat to practice Yoga, Caroline shows you how to add it into your daily life.
-
When we do less, we learn to feel more. This is a gentle and supportive style of yoga with an emphasis on the use of breath and awareness of the spine to release tension from the body.
It is a journey of exploration, giving you a sense of freedom to work at your own pace, in your own way.
We use functional movement practices to expand our knowledge of the body and the breath in a gentle and relaxing way. Moving through passive holds to small flowing sequences, expanding our awareness of self and enables you to experience a new and profound way of moving.
-
A more dynamic practice of Yoga, gently flowing through sun salutations and building a longer sequence of flow as we move through the practice. We use a combination of Yin and Yang postures, building up from passive Yin holds to our Yang flow then transitioning back to Yin and restoration.
-
We explore deep within our body using passive, longer-held poses. We are targeting the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues, the deep fascia networks and the meridians. Yin is in contrast to a Yang Yoga practice which targets the muscles.
-
These classes are a mixture of disciplines, we start relaxing in savasana, easing our way to a Yin pose then restoring for a couple of minutes in between each Yin pose. It’s a different approach to some Yin classes you might have tried.
-
A gentle, deep practice of complete relaxation using props to support us. Think cozy cushions and blankets. We remain lying on the mat, only moving to seated or kneeling. No effort is required here, we are not exercising the body, we are releasing the body and mind by pausing in comfortable poses for 5 to 10 minutes per pose to achieve a total state of relaxation. This practice is followed by Yoga Nidra or a Guided Visulisation.
-
Known as ‘Yogic Sleep’, this practice is an active form of meditation that is performed laying down in savasana with comfortable props to achieve deeper states of consciousness and relaxation. We use a Sankalpa which is the Sanskrit word for intention. San means “to become one with” and kalpa means “time” and “subconscious mind.” The Sankalpa is a way to set an intention, to connect with your heart's deepest desire.
-
Laying down comfortably in savasana, using props to support us, this practice is designed to ease you into a deep state of relaxation. We use guided imagery and visulisation to help you achieve deep states of peacefulness, allowing the body and mind a safe space to heal.
-
This accessible style of Yoga is designed for those with limited mobility, practiced in a chair rather than on a mat. We embody a combination of Scaravelli Inspired, Functional, Reflective and Flow movements with meditation and guided visulisation to bring strength and stamina to body and mind.
-

-
This is a practice of focusing or clearing the mind to allow meaningful attention and awareness with Source Energy. By doing this, we achieve emotional calmness, clarity and a higher sense of wellbeing. We use numerous ways to train the mind, focusing on objects, using the breath and guided visulisation.
-
We work with the breath using different techniques to intentionally change our breathing patterns, release old emotions and improve our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
-
Are you able to express yourself fully? Dancing like nobody is watching is a great way to free yourself. We explore fast and slow movements, and different genres of music. We don’t use sequences, we simply give you guidance and space to be able to reveal yourself and break down the barriers of limited beliefs.
-
Practiced in a swimming pool or the sea, this is a powerful way to experience Yoga and the healing modality of water. We explore movement and stillness in nature, embracing a combination of Scaravelli, Functional, Reflective movement and meditation.
-
Learn the basics of SUP then experience Yoga in a whole different way, out in nature at the beach or lake. Anyone can learn to SUP, it’s easier than you think with the right instruction. Explore something new, we guarantee it will be a fun, memorable experience.
-
This is a fun form of aerobic water-based exercise using the resistance of water to help support our joints. It is great for those with limited mobility and flexibility.
