Why you want to practice Yoga at Casa de Alegria with Caroline

Experience the intimacy of small group class sizes, with a maximum of 4 participants, making it a personalised and engaging experience with plenty of time for you.

Caroline offers personal guidance, instead of teaching.  Each offering is never an instruction, simply the gift of free choice to explore your body and mind in your own way.  The classes are a safe space for reflection and sharing.  There is no striving in Caroline’s classes, instead she encourages allowing, authenticity and acceptance of where we are in the moment.

Caroline encourages the use of props to support your practice.  A pose is never about a shape that should be strived more, more about comfort and what we learn on the way into a pose. At the end of each class, Caroline offers a mini–Head Massage during savasana.

To create a safe space during class, Caroline uses a technique called “Permission Stones”.  If you would like physical touch and/or a mini head massage during the class, you take a stone and place it at the top of your mat.  Clients are encouraged to add or remove the stone during the class as they wish.  This is a way to help people with trauma or insecurities to feel more comfortable saying ‘no’ anonymously to physical touch during a yoga class.

Caroline offers both in-person and on-line classes. If your schedule or location does not align with an in-person class, you can switch to an on-line lesson or access the class recording at your leisure.

If you want to take your practice to an even deeper level, Private lessons are available at Casa de Alegria, or we can bring the Casa de Alegria magic to you.

Styles of Yoga

There are many different styles of Yoga available from subtle practices using a chair to dynamic mat practices and everything in between.

  • When we do less, we learn to feel more. This is a gentle and supportive style of yoga with an emphasis on the use of the breath, spine, and feet to release tension from the body. It is a journey of exploration, giving you a sense of freedom and a safe space to release tension, working at your own pace, in your own way, which enables you to experience a new and profound way of moving. • Similar to Scaravelli Inspired, we use functional movement practices to expand our knowledge of the body and the breath in a gentle and relaxing way. Moving through passive holds to small flowing sequences, expanding our awareness of self.Description text goes here

  • A more dynamic practice of Yoga, flowing through sun salutations and building a longer sequence of flow as we move through the practice. We use a combination of Yin and Yang postures, building up from passive Yin holds to our Yang flow then transitioning back to Yin and restoration.

  • In Yin Yoga we explore deeply within our body with passive, longer-held poses. We are targeting the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues, the deep fascia networks of the body and the meridians. This is contrast to a Yang yoga practice which targets the muscles.

Restorative YinYoga classesare a mixture of disciplines, we start relaxing in savasana, easing our way to a Yin pose then restoring for a couple of minutes in between each Yin pose.  It’s a different approach to some Yin classes you might have tried.

  • A gentle, deep practice of complete relaxation using props to support us. Think cozy cushions and blankets. We remain lying on the mat, only moving to seated or kneeling. No effort is required here, we are not exercising the body, we are releasing the body and mind by pausing in comfortable poses for 5-10min per pose to achieve a total state of relaxation. This practice is followed by Yoga Nidra or a Guided Visulisation.

  • Known as ‘Yogic Sleep’, this practice is an active form of meditation that is performed laying down in savasana with comfortable props to achieve deeper states of consciousness and relaxation. We use a Sankalpa which is the Sanskrit word for intention. San means “to become one with” and kalpa means “time” and “subconscious mind.” The Sankalpa is a way to set an intention, to connect with your heart's deepest desire.

  • Laying down comfortably in savasana, using props to support us, this practice is designed to ease you into a deep state of relaxation. We use guided imagery and visulisation to help you achieve deep states of peacefulness, allowing the body and mind a safe space to heal.

  • This accessible style of Yoga is designed for those with limited mobility, practiced in a chair rather than a mat. We embody a combination of Scaravelli Inspired, Functional, Reflective and Flow movements with meditation and guided visulisation to bring strength and stamina to body and mind.

  • Practiced in a swimming pool or the sea, this is a powerful way to experience Yoga and the healing modality of water. We explore movement and stillness in nature, embracing a combination of Scaravelli, Functional, Reflective movement and meditation.

  • Learn the basics of SUP then experience Yoga in a whole different way, out in nature at the beach or lake. Anyone can learn to SUP, it’s easier than you think with the right instruction. Explore something new, we guarantee it will be a fun, memorable experience.

  • This is a practice of focusing or clearing the mind to allow meaningful attention and awareness. By doing this, we achieve emotional calmness, clarity and a higher sense of wellbeing. We use numerous ways to train the mind, focusing on objects, using the breath and guided visulisation.

  • We work with the breath using different exercises and techniques to intentionally change our breathing patterns to improve our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

  • Are you able to express yourself fully? Dancing like nobody is watching is a great way to free yourself. We explore different movements and genres of music. We don’t use sequences, we simply give you guidance and space to reveal yourself and break down the barriers of limited beliefs.

  • Have you ever wondered what yoga is all about? Do you suffer with back pain or other physical illness? Perhaps you have considered attending a class but did not want to feel out of place as a beginner in an all-levels class? If this sounds like you, then the 6 or 4 class beginners course is the perfect way to ease yourself into regular yoga practice.

During our time together, we will focus on learning the postures with a functional, reflective movement style that aims to release tension and aids relaxation. Additionally, we will learn about the importance of breath, meditation, the origins of Yoga, why we practice, and how it can be relevant to our wellbeing.

You do not need to have current exercise practice, in fact, this course is perfect for those easing themselves back into movement after time out, injury, illness or emotional difficulties.

  • We offer custom made workshops, from self-development, practical, philosophy, creativity, green cleaning, making eco skincare to cooking and baking.

  • This is a fun form of aerobic exercise performed in water and using the resistance of water to help support our bodies. It is great for those with limited mobility as the water supports your joints.

The Benefits of Yoga

Yoga brings increased flexibility, strength, stamina, balance, relaxation, enhanced breathing, mental awareness, and cognitive ability. It brings relief from back pain, arthritis, depression, anxiety, reduces inflammation and lowers blood pressure.

Yoga helps us to deal positively with life, becoming aware of where we place our attention and what we have been ignoring in our bodies. Anyone of any age, and physical or mental ability can begin a Yoga practice by learning movement, breathwork, mediation and visulisation to encourage peace and wellbeing.
